Aerostatic slim air bearing — groove-compensated circular thrust bearing
Load capacity, stiffness, mass flow and volume flow for a circular groove-compensated aerostatic thrust bearing (modeled on the slimairbearings.eu product family).
Load capacity, F234.8 N
Load coefficient, F*0.61
Inherent stiffness, S = −dF/dh20.9 1e6 N/m
Mass flow, ṁ12.572 µg/s (×1e-6 kg/s)
Volume flow, Q0.634 l/min
The legacy page is gated by a server-side login include for the old ASP-hosted site, but solve() itself contains no client-side value-freezing lock — the formula is fully general in D0/H0/pS/pA. The diameter dropdown (10–50 mm) was a UI convenience only.
Method & references
- Circular groove-compensated aerostatic thrust bearing (slimairbearings.eu geometry: groove depth 8 µm, groove radius 0.8·R₀, central pocket radius 0.5 mm).
- Recess pressure from the annular-groove flow-continuity equation; load from numerical integration of the radial pressure profile in the groove and outer land; stiffness by finite difference.
The computation is a literal port of the original client-side JavaScript from /calculators/c12_4g.htm. Results are verified equal to the original by an automated golden-master test. No formula has been re-derived or “improved”.
